Boxer Puppy Feeding Guide: Diet, Kibble & Healthy Growth

Nutrition is the foundation of a healthy, happy Boxer. Here's our complete feeding guide covering what your puppy eats now, how to transition foods safely, and how to tell if your puppy is thriving.

What Your Puppy Eats at Fairytail Forest

Your puppy has been raised on Royal Canin Boxer Puppy kibble, fed twice daily. We chose this food specifically because it's formulated for the Boxer breed's unique jaw shape and digestive needs.

    ๐Ÿ“ฆ At Handover You'll Receive

A Royal Canin pack redeemable for a free bag of kibble. Since this takes about a week to arrive by mail, we strongly recommend having some Royal Canin on hand before pickup day.

    Daily Feeding Guide

    Age Meals per day Note
8โ€“12 weeks 3โ€“4 meals Small, frequent portions
3โ€“6 months 3 meals Gradually reducing frequency
6โ€“12 months 2 meals Standard adult schedule

    Treats & Extras

In addition to kibble, we give our puppies occasional:

    • Rawhide chews โ€” good for teeth and keeping them occupied
    • Pig's ears โ€” natural, digestible, and loved by Boxers
    • Raw meaty bones โ€” excellent for dental health (always supervised)

๐Ÿ’ก Treat rule of thumb: Treats should make up no more than 10% of daily calories. Too many treats = picky eater + upset tummy.

    Changing Foods? Read This First

If you want to switch to a different brand later, transition slowly over 7โ€“14 days:

    1. Days 1โ€“3: 75% old food, 25% new food
    2. Days 4โ€“6: 50% old food, 50% new food
    3. Days 7โ€“9: 25% old food, 75% new food
    4. Day 10+: 100% new food

Sudden food changes can seriously upset a young Boxer's stomach. Always transition gradually โ€” even between flavours of the same brand.

    Is Your Puppy Growing Well?

Food is also one of the best health indicators. A healthy puppy always wants their usual food. Watch for these signs:

    • โœ“ Eagerly finishes meals
    • โœ“ Steady weight gain (not too fast, not too slow)
    • โœ“ Shiny coat, bright eyes, good energy
    • โœ“ Firm, well-formed stools
    • โš  Going off food suddenly โ†’ call us
    • โš  Looks bony or overly fat โ†’ adjust portions
    • โš  Loose stools lasting >24hrs โ†’ vet check

Bonus tip: Feeding meals in the crate reinforces positive associations. It's an easy way to support both nutrition and training goals at once.
