We use "busy busy" as our toilet cue word — but any short, distinct phrase works. The magic is in the association: say it every single time they go, reward immediately, and watch the connection build fast.
Your First Few Days Schedule
Timing is everything
- First thing morning: Straight outside before anything else
- After every meal: 10–20 minutes post-eating
- After every nap: Puppies always need to go after sleeping
- After play sessions: Excitement triggers the urge
- The hourly rule: Set a timer. When in doubt, take them out
- Last thing at night: One final trip before bed

Treats, praise, or play — make every outdoor toilet a celebration. Boxers are people-pleasers; they'll catch on fast.
🚫 No Punishment
Never discipline an accident. It teaches them to hide it, not stop it. If you catch them mid-act, scoop them up and finish outside.
What About Accidents?
They will happen. Here's what to do — and what not to do:
- ✓ DO Clean thoroughly with enzymatic cleaner (normal cleaner leaves a scent that attracts them back)
- ✓ DO Adjust your schedule — if accidents are frequent, increase toilet breaks
- ✓ DO Learn the signs: circling, sniffing suddenly, or heading to a corner
- ✗ DON'T Rub their nose in it — this teaches fear, not cleanliness
- ✗ DON'T Scold after the fact — they won't connect the punishment to the act
- ✗ DON'T Expect overnight perfection — this takes weeks, not days
